Our History

In Medieval Times the current church sight held a Leper House.
In 1847 – A Ragged School was established to provide free schooling to the poorest of children.
In 1875 – The North Mission started, and was later listed in 1924 as the Great Yarmouth Town Mission.
In 1895 – The St Nicholas’s Mission Hall for Women was opened in part to train women in theology and practical mission work for missionary service abroad.
In 1901 – The Hall became a Mission Laundry for the employment and training of women without the rougher elements of factory life.
In 1905 – The building was taken over by a private firm but remained a mission room.
In 1947 – Emmanuel Pentecostal Church was established under the leadership of Pastor Gricks.

From the 90’s – Pastor Peter Cain and Elder Chris Timms, along with their wives Eileen and June, led the church. During this time the church experienced many highs, but as people began to move out of the area (mainly for employment reasons), attendance dropped drastically. But the leaders kept the doors of the church open. And they kept praying for souls to be saved and for God to intervene.

At the end of 2008 Brett, Glenda and their children moved to the UK from South Africa and joined Emmanuel. At the time, there were about seven people attending. Brett and Glends joined with Charles & Jean Woodward and others at Eileen Smith’s home to pray fervently for the community and for growth of the church. God answered, and attendance gradually increased,

Brett and Glenda then started a Bible Study group at their home. This grew to an extent that it moved to the church and a mid-week service began, seeing a number of people being saved, healed and filled with the Holy Spirit.

In 2012 Pastor Peter and the trustees handed over the ministry to Brett and Glenda Crosson. At the end of 2013 Brett left high-school teaching in order to focus more time on building up the church.

In 2018 we started an in-house Bible School with Pastors Jan and Glenda helping with lectures. In 2020 we celebrated the graduation of our Third-Year students. Unfortunately the first and second years were disrupted by Covid, but we hope to resume this again in the nearby future.

Nevertheless, by God’s grace, the Church has been growing numerically and spiritually, and as mentioned before, its international reach has also been growing steadily. People have received salvation, breakthroughs, deliverances and miracles by the working of the Holy Spirit. For this we thank God.
